Singapore, 23rd March 2011: Aljunied Town Council, which manages the HDB estates in the Aljunied GRC which includes Aljunied-Hougang, Bedok Reservoir-Punggol, Eunos, Paya Lebar and Serangoon Division, has selected Web Synergies for the migration project of their website from their own physical server onto the Cloud Computing platform – Windows Azure
Aljunied Town Council’s Management team were looking to cut down spending on their IT hardware and ongoing maintenance fees. Having understood that, Web Synergies proposed a pay-as-you-use pricing model for hosting based on the Windows Azure platform. Besides allowing clear cost accounting, Windows Azure usage is also not bounded by a fixed contractual period, allowing greater flexibility.
The project execution team is spearheaded by Mr Subramanian MP, Senior Manager, who has been with Web Synergies over 10 years. His team includes Project Manager, Mr Chakradhar Telukula, another long service award employee with proven project management and implementation skills. The senior project team was assisted by another two developers and a Quality Assurance personnel.
The Web Synergies team took a two step approach in the migration process. The first step was to migrate the current Aljunied Town Concil’s Joomla! Content Manangement System version 1.5 to Windows Azure platform. The second step was for Web Synergies to migrate the database of the website. Web Synergies also did performed an integration test check to ensure that the website is running normally locally before uploading it to the cloud hosting platform. The project team initially faced a migration issue due to the incompatibility of Joomla! Versions supported, which was eventually resolved.
Another issue encountered was the data migration itself. The Web Synergies team need to carefully migrate Aljunied Town Council’s last 3 years of event and media related images files without hiccups. All the data were eventually successfully migrated over to Windows Azure.
After migrating from their physical web hosting to Windows Azure, Aljunied Town Council is better able to manage their IT costing. Aljunied Town Council can also save on the investments that had to be made on expensive hardware and hosting fees. They are better able to focus their resources on delivering services to the people within the town council than on the upkeep of their IT hardware which can better be handled in a cloud environment like Windows Azure.
